How to Use Social Media to Make Your Small Business Seem Bigger

Often due to their nature, small businesses only have access to extremely limited resources. Often therefore, small businesses pride themselves on their ability to move quickly from project to project. However this sometimes comes at the cost of achieving their long term growth goals. In order to be successful small companies and businesses need to think big. Social media and online marketing are an excellent tool which can allow small businesses to appear larger and therefore more established than they actually are. Below are some hints and tips to help your small business appear bigger online.

Social Media Small Business

1. Create profiles on a range of social media platforms

In order to make your small business seem bigger, it is essential to have a presence on a range of platforms. However, this doesn’t mean you should spend all your time on social media! Use your time on social media wisely. This can be done by organising your interactions so that you are building relationships with the public, customers and influencers. Also ensure that you provide a way for customers and clients to contact you via social media. This means a physical means of contact such as phone number, email address or your office address.

2. Have a plan

Create a business plan for your enterprise. When doing this it is important to ensure that your goal is achievable. Also take time to establish ways in which you can achieve your goal and measure the success your strategies are having. Good starting points for your goal could include building your brand, reaching a greater number of people via social media and subsequently closing more sales.

3. Present your brand consistently online

Unfortunately, small brands can often dismiss branding as the realm of large businesses and corporations. This just isn’t the case. It is worth taking some time to establish the core characteristics of your brand. Once you have done this, use them in all your online interactions. A good way to achieve this is to present your business in the same way across all the social media platforms and online marketing resources you use.re

4. Establish your specific niche

Don’t try to compete in major category areas. By doing this, you will always be outdone by bigger companies with lager budgets, and more manpower. In order to define your niche, assess your field of expertise and look for unmet opportunities. When doing this, however, you need to ensure that your niche is not too small. If your niche area is too small, it will fall under the radar and people will not find it. Think of existing topic areas. Also when selecting your niche you should ensure that it provides potential to grow your business.

5. Respond quickly to people on social media

Ensuring that you respond promptly (within 24 hours) to comments, questions and feedback is an excellent way of creating a larger profile on social media. This does not mean you have to be constantly checking your various platforms. People will understand that you do have a business to run. However, you should aim to dedicate a certain amount of time each day to responding to people across the variety of platforms you use.

6. Create engaging content

Use content as a way of increasing your online presence. Using content efficiently can help your business appear larger than it actually is. However, the creation of content should not diminish from responding to clients, customers and members of public questions. A good policy is to plan the content you intend to post across social media and the internet at large. This is an excellent way of ensuring that each piece you post is part of a larger strategy. Therefore, it will be integrated with your marketing strategy and you will also present an integrated brand image.
